Breastfeeding help · virtual

Breastfeeding hurts. Let's find out why.

Some tenderness in the first days is common. Toe-curling pain, cracked or bleeding nipples, or a nipple that comes out flattened or creased is a sign the latch needs work, and it usually can be fixed.

How we work on it

  1. Watch a full feed

Latch, jaw movement, swallowing and how long baby stays on.

  2. Change one thing at a time

Position, how you bring baby in, and support for your breast.

  3. Plan for healing

Ways to protect sore nipples while the latch improves, and when to see your provider.

Pain that doesn't improve after latch changes can have other causes, like tongue tie or infection. I'll tell you when it's time to see your provider or a specialist.
